Neal Thompson
Meet Neal Thompson. Born August 28th, 1952 to Don and Hazel Thompson in Albany,
Oregon. The eldest of three brothers, and a son of the timber industry, he was
raised with a strong sense of integrity and leadership. After 17 years Neal’s
father closed his logging company and opened a paint store where, over the next
25 years, Neal and his brothers learned the importance of honesty and
communication in business. After graduation from Napa High School in Napa,
California, he attended Napa Junior College until he was drafted into the U.S.
Army near the end of the Viet Nam War. Thompson quickly progressed in rank and
favor to a position that kept him stateside to teach missile systems and related
technology.
During his service in the Army, he married and had two sons. Soon after he was
honorably discharged and moved to Louisiana where he learned the electrical
trade. As an electrician, he worked in paper mills, saw mills, and other
industrial plants. Thompson had always loved being in the Northwest, and in 1988
he felt a strong call to come to Idaho. He worked for Simplot as Plant
Electrical Superintendent for two years. In 1990, after his divorce, he moved to
McCall where he started his own electrical company. He still runs that company
today with the same reputation of integrity he started it with nearly 18 years
ago.
He is a greatly respected leader in his community, doing his best to effect
change for the better in the workplace, school system, and the local community
as a whole. While he was raised by his parents as a Nazarene, Thompson currently
attends a non-denominational church where he has sat on the board of deacons and
elders for the past 14 years. He has also a school board trustee for the McCall
district for the past 8 years. Thompson became a life member of the NRA in 1990,
and was also a member of the American Legion. Along with these, Thompson has
been a supporter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation since 1990 and an active
member for the past three years.
In 1992 he married Faye Farnsworth. He now has four children, Jason, Karalee,
Chris, David, and four grand children. When he isn’t hard at work, he likes to
play softball, go hiking and hunting, and enjoys ATV’s and snowmobiling.
